09 Holden LX Torana A9X 1977 b What would you pay for a 41-year-old Holden Torana? It’s all original, in good nick and has less than 100,000 km up.

However expansive you may be feeling it’s a pretty safe bet that your answer will be somewhere south of a quarter of a million bucks, but Shannons, the nation’s premier auctioneer of collectible cars, expected this 1977 A9X Torana to fetch somewhere in the region of $200,000 to $250,000. You could get a new BMW 7-series for that.

According to the experts, it ticks all the boxes for a desirable collectible car investment. It has good provenance, having had the same owner for the last 27 years, it has been off the collectible radar for just as long (that owner was away to work interstate and stored it), all its major components are present and it’s supplied with all the correct books.

09 Holden LX Torana A9X 1977 aWhile the owner was on that protracted sojourn the car remained covered and locked up in a garage cage in Sydney’s northern suburbs. Repainted in its original colours of Jasmine Yellow and Slate Black some years ago (using the correct acrylic paint) it has Simmons wheels with the original steel spare still in the boot. The interior appears to have the original upholstery and trim.

Shannons describes its mechanical condition as ‘surprisingly good’ and it has 94,184 km showing on its odometer.

The car went to auction in Sydney on March 12 and fetched $275,00.
